Discover this magnificent elephant trunk nebula IC 1396, captured here in SHO, the palette used by the Hubble telescope, so you can print it and frame it at home or as a gift to a loved one! Thanks to the high definition image in .jpg and .png format you can do what you want with it (frame, offer, make a postcard or greeting card).

Too faint to be visible to the naked eye, this nebula is one of the most beautiful. Its impressive size of 120 to 150 light years corresponds to 1500 star systems and 2000 stars (our own solar system has only one star for comparison).

This nebula allows the creation of new stars thanks to matter, this gas which is mainly hydrogen illuminated by the ionization due to the very energetic radiation of young stars, which, in certain more opaque areas, collapse locally in the form of “Bok globules” and constitutes stellar protosystems. These globules, with a mass of approximately 10 to 40 solar masses and distributed over an area of approximately 1 light year, result in the creation of one or more stars.

The image results from a mosaic of four panels, four photos therefore, due to the impressive size of this target. Processed in SHO, the palette used by the Hubble telescope, the structure of the nebula stands out clearly thanks to the restrictive filters intended to let hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur pass through. In this way, the details are more visible and we realize even better the beauty of this star.
